On April 21, The Saratogian published an article titled "Pot party at Skidmore." The article was about the students who choose to smoke marijuana on the library's green on April 20 and the administration's lack of response. The tone of the article, and the near-puritanical discussion it sparked in the comments section, is very negative toward the college.
It's a shame that we leave Skidmore after the most stressful time of the semester. The last-minute e-mails, rigorous tests, lengthy final papers and exhausting presentations often leave us in a collapsed heap rather than filled with a proud feeling of accomplishment.
For the past year and a half I have had the opportunity to address the Skidmore community in this column. There have been many times during my tenure with Skidmore News that I have caused controversy. I hope that amidst this controversy, students were encouraged some to stop and think before proceeding down the road of comfort and good-feeling that so many of us espouse today.
I would like to take a moment to bask in some of the righteousness that went down on this campus over the past two weeks. Things really got started at the reincarnation of Diva Night, an event I heard endless praise for when I was just a prospective student here five years ago.
